I have a friend, you know the one, he already has two of everything and gift giving get's more and more difficult every year. One evening he was telling a story about an all you could eat seafood restaurant probably from sometime in the 1980's and he spoke very animatedly about the Alaskan King Crab and how delicious it was. Later that night I ended up here and purchased the Colossal Red King Crab Legs as his Christmas gift.
On Christmas Eve the legs came out of the freezer for the recommended 8 hours in the fridge for thawing. The next morning I rinsed them lightly under cold water and returned them to the fridge. Later on Christmas Day I made seafood boil with Lobsters, Prawns, scallops, red potatoes, yellow onions, corn on the cob and kielbasa. All simmered in a wonderful broth of coriander seed, celery seed, dill, ginger, ground mustard, cayenne pepper, paprika and a pinch of all spice and the crab was added at the end for reheating.
Dinner was delicious, succulent lobster, tender prawns and scallops, with perfectly cooked potatoes and corn all bathed in the most wonderfully fragrant broth. The crab unfortunately was nearly inedible. The salt content was so far off, the crab had no flavor other than that of salt. At the end of dinner all that remained was the crab legs.
In hopes of possibly saving so much meat I de-shelled it all, the salt problem persisted throughout the entire four pounds of legs. In a final attempt to save the meat I even tried soaking it in milk as you would with salted cod. No luck.
So I’m sorry to say that I would have a difficult time recommending this product to anyone.
