Ora King Documentary Our Story

Learn Why Ora King Is The Best Salmon In The World

When it comes to premium seafood, few names evoke the same level of admiration as Ora King Salmon. Often referred to as the "Wagyu of the Sea," this exceptional variety of salmon has earned its place as one of the finest in the world, sought after by chefs, culinary experts, and seafood lovers alike.

The only Ora King Salmon in the world comes from the crystal-clear waters off the coast of New Zealand. The breeding program begins at a freshwater facility where Ora King Salmon eggs are nurtured in flowing waters; this is known as the broodstock. From there, fertilized eggs hatch at another freshwater facility within New Zealand. Within the first year of life, the smolt are transported to an aquaculture facility where Ora King Salmon can mature in fast-flowing sea water, emulating the natural life cycle of wild King Salmon.

What’s the Serving Size of Ora King Salmon Fillets?

Your Ora King Salmon will come frozen in an 8.5 oz. fillet. Each fillet is center-cut, boneless, and with the skin on to retain texture and optimal flavor. Our recommendation is to serve one 6.7 oz. fillet per person with your favorite seafood appetizers and side dishes. Check out our amazing Maine Lobster Now appetizers and sides here.

The Health Benefits of King Salmon

Seafood is widely regarded by medical experts and dieticians to be healthy and provide nutritional benefits not found in other meat sources. While salmon is often widely publicized for its health benefits, in general, most fish species are also low in calories and fat, but high in protein, vitamins, and minerals.

Ora King Salmon is highly beneficial to your health, just as other species of salmon. A 3 oz. serving of salmon contains just 60 calories and 10 grams of fat, while offering a whopping 17 grams of protein. Salmon is an excellent source of vitamin B12 to help regulate cells and provides a wealth of omega-3 fatty acids, which have been proven to help lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases, as well as some types of cancer, dementia, and Alzheimer’s.

Simple Instructions for Storing and Thawing Ora King Salmon

Storage: Keep frozen ≤ 0℉ (-18° C). Vacuum-sealed fish held under these conditions should retain their quality for at least 6 to 12 months. Lean white fish (halibut, cod) generally have a longer freezer life than fatty fish (salmon, tuna, sablefish). It is important to note seafood stored in frost-free freezers should be used within 3 months.

Thawing instructions: Thaw under refrigeration ≤ 38℉ (3℃). Before thawing, puncture or remove packaging. For quick-thawing, place frozen fish in cool water for approximately 20 to 30 minutes, just until contents are flexible. Once thawed, immediately cook or refrigerate (if refrigerating, puncture the package). Regardless of the chosen thawing technique, once the product is thawed, it should be cooked within 24 hours and stored at a temperature no higher than 38℉ (3℃).

Here are easy instructions to cook our 8 oz frozen salmon fillet with the skin on:

1. Thaw the salmon: Ideally, thaw in the fridge overnight. If you’re in a hurry, place the frozen fillet in a sealed bag and submerge it in cold water for 30-40 minutes.

2. Preheat the oven: Set the oven to 400°F (200°C).

3. Season the salmon: Lightly oil the fillet and season with salt, pepper, and your choice of herbs or spices.

4. Bake: Place the salmon skin-side down on a lined baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the salmon is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.

For crispier skin, finish by broiling for the last 2-3 minutes.

Enjoy your perfectly cooked salmon!
